What to write in a rental listing

A rental listing does not need fancy language. It needs useful information. The best listings help a renter quickly decide whether the item suits their job, where pickup happens, what is included and what conditions apply.

Lead with the actual item

Write the item name, model if known, condition and best use. Instead of saying "great tool", explain what it is good for: cutting pavers, cleaning carpet, moving furniture, shading a party area or powering a campsite.

List every included piece

Accessories are often the difference between a successful hire and a wasted trip. Mention straps, hoses, nozzles, batteries, chargers, bags, pegs, walls, leads, attachments, blades or bits. If something is not included, say that too.

Add pricing and pickup details

Include the daily price, weekly price if offered, bond, pickup suburb, preferred pickup windows and return expectations. You do not need to publish your full address in the listing, but renters should know the general area before they enquire.

Use honest photos

Upload real photos of the item, not catalogue images. Show the whole item, important accessories, labels and any wear. Honest photos build trust and make admin approval easier.

Finish with boundaries

State any limits: no beach use, indoor use only, must be returned clean, fuel not included, renter supplies cleaning solution, suitable vehicle required, or experience recommended. Clear boundaries are better than awkward messages later.
