How to safely rent items from locals
Use Mine helps people find local items to hire, but the hire itself is arranged directly between the owner and renter. That makes clear communication important. A short written record and a few photos can prevent most avoidable disagreements.
Write down the basics
Before pickup, confirm the item, hire dates, daily price, bond, pickup suburb, return time, included accessories and any rules about use. SMS or email is usually enough. The point is that both people can refer back to the same details later.
Inspect together where practical
At pickup, check the item with the owner. Photograph visible wear, serial labels, accessories and anything that could be mistaken for new damage later. At return, compare condition and confirm accessories are back.
Know what Use Mine does not do
Use Mine does not inspect items, provide insurance, hold bonds, process rental payments or guarantee listing accuracy. Owners and renters remain responsible for deciding whether a hire is suitable and comfortable for them.
Warning signs
Pause if the listing looks vague, the photos do not match the item, payment instructions feel suspicious, the pickup location changes unexpectedly, or either person pushes to skip basic checks. There will always be another listing; do not rush into a hire that feels wrong.
